T20 Club Championship Kicked off with Societe Pastorale De La Loumpate Limited


WICKET! Splashe Mele Bulls vs Power House Panthers

Vanuatu Cricket’s T20 club championship kicked off last Saturday March 27th at the Vanuatu Cricket Grounds and Independence Park with the proud sponsorship of Societe Pastorale De La Loumpate Limited.


The competition, now called the ‘Societe Pastorale De La Loumpate Limited (SPL Limited) T20 Club Championship’ is featuring teams from the seven active clubs on Efate namely, Paama Sharks, Splashe Mele Bulls, Ifira Black Birds, Mighty Saints, Power House and North Efate Bush Pigs.


The competition is being played in a round robin format and round matches will continue for 7 weeks before the semi-finals and grand finals are staged.


Round one matches were played on Saturday March 27th with the Splashe Mele Bulls taking on the Power House Panthers at Independence Park, Tafea Sandalwood took on the Mighty Saints at VCG 1 and Ifira Black Birds against North Efate Bush Pigs at VCG 2.

WOMEN


Splashe Mele Bulls vs Power House Panthers

Result: Bulls won by 213 runs.

Match Summary: In the highest scoring match of the day, the Splashe Mele Bulls Women’s team took on the Power House Panthers Women at Independence Park. Bulls won the toss and elected to bat first, forcing the Panthers to bowl. With a combined total of 244 runs at the end of their 20 overs, the Bulls had no problems claiming their first victory after comfortably bowling the Panthers all out for a mere 31 runs.


Splashe Mele Bulls 5/244: Marcelina Mete (73*), Therese Mansale (68*), Alvina Chilia (36), Valenta Langiatu (35), Lineth Toara (1/44, 4 overs).

Power House Panthers 6/31: Alice Pakoa (15*), Marcelina Mete (3/5, 1.3 overs), Vicky Mansale (3/9, 4 overs).

Tafea Sandalwood vs Mighty Saints

Result: Mighty Saints won by forfeit


Ifira Black Birds vs North Efate Bush Pigs

Result: Ifira Black Birds won by 10 wickets

Match Summary: NE Bush Pig won the toss and elected to bat first at the Vanuatu Grounds main oval (VCG 1). Selina Solman opened the batting for the Bush Pigs and posed a total of 64 runs before she was dismissed. After Solman was dismissed the team struggled to score runs with five of their batters going out for ducks. Shania Kenni, not wanting to continue the duck trend, contributed 19 runs to the teams overall total of 108 runs at the end of their inning. Rachel Andrew, on her return to club cricket after being out for 12 month due to an injury captained the Ifira Sharks to a 10 wicket victory with 64 runs, not out.

Result: Splashe Mele Bulls won by 9 wickets

Match Summary: Power House Panther won the toss and elected to bat first in their opening match of the competition at Independence Park. The match was a low scoring match with the Panthers only managing 60 runs before being bowled all out by the Bulls. Patrick Matautaava wasted no time chasing as he scored 41 runs off 15 balls (not out) taking the Bulls to a comfortable victory in just 4.4 overs.

Match Summary: Tafea Sandalwood won the toss and elected to bat first and opened with brothers, Clement Tommy and Juilan Tommy. Clement Tommy and Williamsing Nalisa both posted huge individual scores to take Tafea to a total of 142runs at the end of their inning. Saints needing 143 runs to win had luck on their side and with contributions from Selwyn Garae, Lazaro Carlot and Markia MacMillan, they were able to clench a 2 wicket victory against Tafea.

Ifira Black Birds vs North Efate Bush Pigs

Result: Ifira Black Birds won by 6 wickets

Match Summary: NE Bush Pigs won the toss and elected to bat first against Ifira. Bush Pigs opened with William Yamak who moved from Paama Sharks to the Pigs this year. Tom Adams starred with the bat for the Bush Pigs and with contributions from Yamak, the Bush Pigs ended their inning with a total of 106 runs on the scoreboard. Ifira Black Birds needing only 107 runs to win opened with captain Nalin Nipiko who kicked off the chase and an almost half century contribution from Niko Unavalu took the Ifira Black Birds to a comfortable victory in the 11th over of the second inning.
